WIP: Black Legion

Put together my first Chaos Space Marine - from the regular Chaos Space Marine GW box. Got it primed and a coat of Gehennas Gold and Auric Armor Cold put down for some detail.

Still a long way to go, especially with working on those Tyranids too.

WIP: Tyranid Coloring Test

I like how this model is coming out for my color scheme for my Tyranids. Still have some detail work to do, but overlal, fairly quick and easy.

Starts with a basic white prime folowed by a coat of Drakenhof Nightshade on the carapace and Mephiston Red over the exposed flesh areas.

Second coat on the carapace, clean up the body with Skull White and then do a heavy wash with Seraphim Sepia over the body. Wallah. 3 color minium, but does need more detail of course and basing.

Works in Progress: Prussian Empire, Dystopian Wars

Worked on my Prussian Empire stuff a little this afternoon. Added a layer of Ironbreaker to all of the models and started the flag colors on the smokestacks and wings of aircraft (Black, White, Red eventually).

I'm really digging the detail on these models and they are a nice break (did I need one?) from the Grey Knights and 40K models.

The Frigates.

The wings on the bombers will carry the flag colors as well going towards the tip as Black, White and Red.

Detail shot of 1 of my tiny flier squadrons.

A Great Hobby Weekend

This last week and weekend were good for me hobby-wise. I did my first transfer (the #2 on the Razorback above).

I also did my first Imerial Skull and Wings paint-job. I really like the depth and detail I got though I still have some fine-tuning to do with the skull. The one below will be added to the same Razorback, I just haven't determined where yet.

Below is one of my new hobby toys. I got the stand-alone 2.5x/4x spot at WalMart for the amazing low price of only $15. I also picked up a double-sided cutting mat as well at our local art store for $8 and a couple of micro-pens which I haven't used yet but will use for Scroll work.

Last but definately not least I picked up my first Dystopian Wars fleet. Got a great deal thanks to another DW player in the area and picked up the rulebook as well. I got the Prussian Empire Naval Battle Fleet and the Prussian Air Fortress.

All the models except the Air Fortress have been primed black, then based Ledbelcher and washed with Nuin Oil. Loving the depth and detail these models have and looking forward to my first matchup which will probably be a week or two away. At the rate I'm going painting these things (I just got them Saturday morning) they should be fully painted by then.

I'm sure I'll have more Works-in-Progress reports later this week on both my grey Knights Army and my Prussian Empire Fleet. Stay tuned!

Grey Knights Growing!!

Have some lines to clean up on the new Razorback and more detail to put on it as well as some parts, but liking the look of it!

I haven't decided if I am going to swap turrets out yet for visual interest yet, but part of me likes the swap out.

This is why I am a newb. I am so proud of this glowing effect on my Interceptor's backpack/teleporter! Learned how from this month's White Dwarf. The original article was for green energy for Necrons, but I applied it here. I like it!!

Castellan Crowe's details are starting to come along and I've finally attached his banner to his backpack and getting it painted up. Still have to finish him off but taking my time, since for now he's one of my better painted models IMO.

You can see one of my Interceptors on the far left still being worked on, but here's my army so far.  still have a Dreadknight in the box and will be unveiling him in June here I think. Speaking of June, I should be adding another Razorback and a 5-man Purgation squad into the mix as well. Almost there for my first 2,000 point GK Army! (note: the Terminators will be retired for future use and not being counted towards my 2K points)

WIP: Grey knights

My army continues to grow. This time, I'm working on Venerable Dreadnought and a 5-man squad of Interceptors.

Having gotten yet more paint, I had to re-do my paint storage strategy!

A Night of Detail

After a week of back-breaking work and finals for Spring semester, I finally got a night to spend on the hobby. I didn't get a lot done, other than working reds and blues for one of my squads of Purifiers.

While I did work on the entire unit, the Knight of the Flame simply took better pictures.

I started what I will assume to be a long process (especially considering my speed at painting) the banner carried by Castellan Crowe.

I also got the next layer put on my Dreadnought and got him glued together (well as far as shown anyway), minus being glued to his base. I'm liking the look, though there is still a bit of detailing to do to flesh it out and give him some dimension.

Will probably pick up a couple more of the new GW paint pots tomorrow and hopefully in the next couple of weeks will be able to pick up another unit for my army and the new GW Painting Guide.

Tonight's WIP

Using the tutorial from Stahly's Tale of Painters I started working on my first Dreadnought. It was also my first time using mixed paints (2 or more colors per coat mixed together) and a thinning medium. I really liked how it worked, though my second coat (a Kator Blue and Chaos Black) was too dark and I probably used too much glaze on my third coat. So lesson learned here is just be a tad more patient. That said, while the color isn't exactly right for this stage of the painting (at least according to the tutorial), I am happy with the affect.

In addition, I also got my Terminators based finally, though I do need to come back and do a little clean up.

Last but not least I also finally got all of my arms and shoulders on my second set of Purifiers. Now to just getthem based...

My paint collection as of today. :)

Each step I take on this project seems to further motivate me to the next step. If this motivation can just stay, then perhaps by the end of May I'll have all of my GK's painted and only be a few models shy of my 2,000 point goal - which of course will require a couple more boxes of models. The horror! ;)

The GK's Grow...

Yesterday and last night after work, I got a lot of hobbying done (at least by my standards). The new 5 Purifiers are coming together nicely and have all been put on their bases now and at the very least their heads, bodies and legs have been attached. The Knight of the Flame above has his arms and weapons now, but still missing his shoulder pads.

The Purifier with no arms plans on wield a Hammer one day, while the Psycannon guys are still missing one of their arms.

I also primed and started putting together my very first Dreadnought. I'm very happy to say it is easier than it looks and components so far fit well in a dry fitting. I actually plan on using him (dry-fitted) tomorrow if I can get in a match or two at Bud's.

I also got my first 5 Purifiers based properly. The rock mix I got from Michaels is working out well IMO.

Last but not least added more detail to my Razorback, though it appears I glued the hatch here too soon. Lesson learned for my next one. I think I can still make it look pretty sharp but in hind-sight I wouldn't of glued down the hatchs yet and make sure the edges were painted correctly first.

Tomorrow I am hoping toget in a couple of games. My list is still pretty small considering what I can field, but the army is growing and is the second step in my army in too many months.

Mo' Painting, Mo' Painting, Mo' Paint-ing

I got some more painting done tonight. I'm pretty happy how my Castellan Crowe is coming along. I messed up his eye a little but I expect I can fix that.

Two of my new paints I used tonight was the Necron Compound Drybrush followed up with Guilliman Blue Glaze. I liked the result (see above pic).

Last but not least I also worked on some details throughout my models. I only spent about an hour on painting tonight, but hey each hour adds up. More later this weekend I expect!

More Grey Knight Progress

Using corks has helped a lot in highlighting details. There's still the whole putting these together once they are done and I'm sure some left over detailing then as well. But in the meantime I am enjoying this particular process for painting my army - or at least this set of Purifiers.
