About how I arrived to 40K

I've been a gamer most of my life. Introduced to D&D at age 8 with the basic Blue Box by an older cousin, I'll never forget my first game as a wizard. I spent an entire afternoon creating the character and role playing aorund the village to buy adventuring equipment and then died in my first encounter. Yet, I was hooked. My dad wasn't a fan of the whole idea and had the whole "you will not play D&D" rule down. I still played of course, even spending my milk money on buying the original blue polyhedron dice and sneaking maps of dungeons in my school notebooks.

When video games came out like Asteroids and Pac Man (and Pong with Atari), I was an avid player thanks to my mom seeing this as a great source of entertainment for me the ADHD kid and we just didn't mention it to my dad. As I got older I continued to play and when I went into the Army, my RPG interest expanded as I tried other RPG systems, from Gama World, Space Master, Traveller, Middle Earth RPG, Twilight 2000 and many others. Afterwards in college, I played mostly Advanced Dungeons and Dragons and video games.

As I got slightly older and married the first time with kids, my time was shortened for playing games and I stuck with video gaming and a card game called Magic: the Gathering that had just been released. However by my mid 70's I stepped away from all types of gaming except video games. In my mid 30's I was searching for "something" to enjoy life better and came to the realization I hadn't enjoyed life as much as when i was gaming with others. Sure, I was still playing video games, but hadn't entered the world of MMO's yet. I got back into D&D now in edition 3.5 and jumped full force back into it. A year later, job environment and hours would pull me away from RPG gaming as much as I enjoyed but a new video game, a MMORPG had just come out called World of Warcraft. I found a home as it were for my gaming.

I quit WoW right after Burning Crusade came out, not too impressed with it and stayed out for over a year before meeting my second and current wife. She was an avid WoW player and I naturally fell back into the game. Even better, she enjoyed RPG games as well and it wasn't long before I was back in full bloom as a gamer.

Over the years I've always been interested in miniature war gaming, but with one big problem. I couldn't stand the idea of having to paint them. My wife's brother was a huge 40K player and of all the miniature war games, I was always drawn to it the most, thanks to video games and black library books (some of my favorite Space Opera around) and the fact that it had a large player base. Still did not like the idea of painting though and stated as much. Turns out my wife like to paint...

The real suprising aspect of getting into 40k though was the fact that it turns out I like to paint the miniatures afterall. I don't have a lot of time to dedicate to it like I would like and in terms of priorities it's not very high (shoot I'm writing this instead of painting right now), but I do enjoy it.

And that is where this blog comes in. I'm a newb to 40K the hobby and the game, but the desire to play has been around for a long long time and I've jumped in with both feet. Obvisouly there are other aspects to my life and things that I enjoy aside from gaming, but this blog is about my journey with 40K and thats all. I hope you enjoy it!
